Poorly soluble APIs

Many pharmaceuticals fail to achieve their full potential activity due to their poor solubility and subsequent lack of bioavailability. Since 1995 >90% of approved drugs have poor solubility and/or permeability. In the race for new actives approximately 40% of new chemical entities which are discovered also have little or no water solubility. Many approaches are used to overcome these constraints, each having significant limitations. The IOTA NanoSolutions Limited platform technology is generic and has been shown to enable the effective release and enhance the bioactivity of active ingredients.

IOTA NanoSolutions' technologies allow the control of the particle size (from 10 to 500nm) in the nanodispersion. The control of particle size is independent of the chemistry of the active ingredient (Figures A-C: 100 - 300nm particles of various actives).

The IOTA NanoSolutions process may be engineered to form rapid or slow release systems providing options to control the delivery of the nanoparticulate drug (Figure D: single hydrophobic active delivery from a series of six formulations showing control of release - 14% to 95% within 1 minute and 78% to 100% within 10 minutes). In the photograph above 1 = Standard OTC pharmaceutical active in water after 3 minutes and 2 = IOTA NanoSolutions nanodispersion of the OTC pharmaceutical active after 3 minutes.
